The St. Kate's volleyball team lost a close game to #17 ranked Concordia College Wednesday night at Butler Center, after an impressive comeback attempt.
After the dropping the first two sets (14-25, 20-25), the Wildcats came storming back, never giving the Cobbers the lead in the third set and winning it (25-20). The fourth set continued to be hard-fought, with each team trading points. Then, with the score at 18-19, St. Kate's rallied off seven straight points to take the set (25-19).
In the final set the Wildcats took an early 7-4 lead. But Concordia battled back, eventually tying the score at 10-10. The two teams traded the next four points before the Cobbers took the last three points to seal the victory. The final scores were as follows: (14-25,20-25,25-20,25-19,12-15)
Senior Maria Hoffman led the Wildcats with 16 kills, followed by Megan Ahlbrecht with 13 and Stephanie Meschke with 11. Nicole Neumann recorded 29 digs, while Nicole Pothen had 16. Hoffman and Callie Teigen each had 13 digs.
The loss drops St. Kate's record to 1-1 in the M.I.A.C., 11-6 overall.
The Wildcats look to bounce back in the M.I.A.C. this Saturday when they host St. Olaf at 2:00 PM at Butler Center. The match is the final event of the St. Catherine University Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony taking place prior to the game.
